CHOOSING
THE RIGHT COLORS |
The majority of homes are painted a minimum of three shades—one
color for siding, and two or more for doors, railings, window sashes,
and trim. Choosing just the right contrasting accent and trim colors
draws attention to stunning architectural details and can even
disguise the home’s flaws. Choosing the wrong colors can
make your home seem either bland or garish.
Here are some things to think about when choosing colors:
Your Home’s Architecture
Earthy tones fit well with adobe-style homes and older Victorian
homes look stunning with bright colors.
Your Neighborhood
A bright chartreuse home in a neighborhood of stately muted Colonials
might not be a great idea and could actually detract from your home’s
curb appeal.
Your Home’s Existing Colors
Take into consideration your roof’s color as well as any mortar
or siding that will not be painted. Also, if you’re not planning
to repaint the railings, window sashes or doors, make sure the new
paint harmonizes with these existing colors. |
