LEAD PAINT
& HIGH VOC PAINTS |
If your home or apartment building was constructed before the mid-1970’s
there’s a risk that the interior paint and primer on your
walls, ceiling, and baseboard may contain lead. Also keep in mind
that for many decades asbestos was used as insulation in buildings
across the world. Many of the NY region’s older buildings,
especially those that haven’t been renovated in quite some
time, contain both asbestos in crawlspaces, walls, ductwork, and
plumbing and lead paint on the walls, ceiling and baseboards. Unfortunately,
the prep work involved in interior painting jobs--like scraping
and sanding--can send paint dust and asbestos fibers into the air.
Breathing that air in is dangerous for all of us, but especially
for pregnant women and children. That’s why before you begin
any prep work you should test all the surfaces you’re planning
on painting in your apartment or home for lead and asbestos. MyHome
Painting Services is fully equipped to not only test your home
for dangerous chemicals, but is also capable of removing the dangerous
paint without endangering you or your loved ones in the process.
Also, because house paints contain VOCs, or volatile organic chemicals,
it’s important that your property is properly ventilated
during the entire painting process and that pregnant women and
children avoid the area in question until the paint has fully dried.
