Bathtubs

Tubs are constructed from three main materials. Cast iron is the strongest, heaviest and most expensive. Porcelain is a good durable option – and less expensive than cast iron. Acrylic tubs are becoming more popular. They are relatively inexpensive and made from a light material. A great upgrade option is a whirlpool jet tub. Unfortunately, most city bathrooms are too small for them. Since many tubs in pre-war buildings are made from cast iron, and a good option may be to re-glaze which renews the tub surface. It is even possible to re-glaze the tub in a different color.

Bathtubs styles–with and without showe–include clawfoot tubs, drop-in modules, whirlpool baths, air baths, and Japanese soaker tubs. Spend some time perusing various models with your MyHome consultant before selecting one: there are so many from which to choose!

Clawfoot Tubs

Clawfoot tubs recall an earlier era and are perfect for Victorian home or those with a more classic Old World design aesthetic. The tubs themselves are made from a variety of materials like copper, bronze, cast iron and porcelain while the feet are usually some type of metal.

Drop-in Tubs

The drop-in tub is the traditional tub most of us are already familiar with. It’s usually coupled with a showerhead and shower rod/curtain and comes in a variety of styles and materials.

Whirlpool Baths

You’re probably the most familiar with the Jazuxxi brand whirlpool baths, but there are now a number of well known luxury brands of whirlpool bathtubs for you to choose from—whether they’re a simple drop-in model that will fit into the same space as a traditional tub, or a two or three person model, creating the perfect in-home spa is easier than ever.

Air Baths

Air baths offer gentle effervescence for a soothing and rejuvenating experience.

Soaker Tubs

Soaker tubs have a deep basin for soaking and come in drop-in, freestanding and walk-in models. Soaker tubs come in a wide array of materials, colors and styles—so there’s sure to be a perfect fit.

Japanese Soaker Tubs

Japanese soaker tubs are designed for bathing in an upright position and are a perfect choice if you’ve got limited room for a tub. Traditional Japanese soaker tubs, or Ofuro, were made of wood. Bathers cleaned themselves before entering the bath so the water would remain clean for repeated use—much like a swimming pool or hot tub. Modern iterations are made from tile, stainless steel, plastic, or even concrete and are used in the same manner as a traditional American bathtub. They also come in standard, air bath and whirlpool models.
