Finding The Perfect Bathroom Vanity

The bathroom vanity is a defining piece in the space, and therefore it is an important piece of the puzzle when doing a redesign or remodel of the bathroom space. If you are in the market for a new bathroom vanity, take a look at the tips below before heading to the store.

Size Matters
Before you head out to purchase a vanity, you’re going to want to decide what size vanity you’re in the market for. Vanities come in a wide range of sizes, from very small to very large for larger families where multiple people are using the vanity at once. You should evaluate which size is right for you by considering the following factors:
• How big is the bathroom?
• How many people are going to be using the vanity?
• How many people are going to be using the vanity simultaneously?
• How much of the bathroom is going to be devoted to the vanity, and how much of it needs to be reserved for other pieces?

Style Matters
There are so many styles of vanities out there – it’s easy to get lost in the mix at the store if you don’t go in prepared. When you’re considering what style to land on, consider the style of the rest of your home. A bathroom that has a fixture that’s vastly different than the rest of the house will stick out and feel odd. If your house is very traditional, for example, an ultra-modern vanity won’t work. Conversely, if you’re very into modern Euro design, an antique or vintage-looking vanity would feel odd.

Research
With the availability of the Internet and the multitude of styling ideas that it offers, you can virtually design your bathroom, well… virtually! Once you have an idea of the type of style you’re looking for, hit the Internet and start pulling some ideas. You may even want to save images and print them out so that you may bring them to the store with you. If you can show a showroom designer what you have in mind, he or she will have a much easier time helping you achieve the look that you want.

Invest
Though no one should break the bank for a home improvement project, it isn’t a bad idea to invest in high-quality, well-made materials that will last you a long time. Cheaply made items may be fine for a quick fix, but if you are thinking of your bathroom remodel as a long-term installment in the home, you’ll be disappointed when the vanity you installed two years ago falls apart. Vanities come in a very wide range of quality. Do some research on brand names so that you are educated when you go into the store.

Don’t Forget Plumbing
It may sound silly, but sometimes homeowners get so wrapped up in how a new bathroom will look that they forget about the feasibility of the sink being placed across the room from where it is now. Keep in mind that unless you want to bring in a plumber and completely redirect the plumbing in your home, you are likely going to need to place a vanity in the same place that one rests now.
