It seems like everyone is interested in eco-friendly building practices these days, especially as heating and cooling costs skyrocket in a floundering economy. One local full service remodeling firm, MyHome, is helping its New York & NJ renovation clients save money on utility bills through a revolutionary new exterior coating by Texcote called CoolWall.
The CoolWall system is specifically designed to reflect the sun’s heat and uses the same special reflective pigments used by the U.S. government to cool ships, and provide both reflectivity and reduced radar signature in Stealth bombers. Unlike normal paint or even green paint these special pigments reflect solar heat by changing the invisible portion of the light spectrum, helping reflect heat without changing color. CoolWall technology allows MyHome's NY remodeling clients to save up to 21.9% on their heating and cooling bills. (CoolWall reduces exterior wall surface temperatures by 40 degrees Fahrenheit: lower exterior temperatures translate into lower interior temperatures.)
Unlike other "ceramic" coatings—which are actually ordinary coatings to which small ceramic spheres added—Texcote actually offers a great degree of insulation. (Ceramic coatings, while they can be applied heavier than ordinary paint, are simply not thick enough to offer any significant insulation.)
Also unlike ceramic coatings, CoolWall’s energy savings has been established by the U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The DOE and Federal Trade Commission have, in contrast, debunked ceramic coatings’ claims of reflectivity.
Applying Texcote is, naturally, a significant investment for NYC and NJ residents but it’s a wise investment: since Texcote’s CoolWall lasts up to ten years, doesn’t chip, peel or flake New York homeowners are saving additional money by foregoing routine repainting of their homes’ exteriors. Thanks to FadeBlock technology and CoolWall’s advanced reflective formulation, all of its 570 colors stay vibrant longer.
More and more of MyHome’s clients are using Texcote as part of their efforts to create more energy efficient homes. By adding Texcote to a home that already utilizes Energy Star appliances such as water efficient dishwashers, washing machines, and toilets and energy efficient refrigerators and washers and dryers, homeowners are able to make a significant dent in their monthly utility bills—which is good for both the homeowner, the environment, and our growing communities.
