High-tech
Bathrooms: The Future Is Now |
In today’s fast paced world, it’s getting harder not
to be inundated by the new wave of technological advancements that
come to market. Whether it’s the iPhone, home automation
or light control for your NJ home, or high-tech
A/V and home theater systems for your NYC renovation project, the public at large is
embracing technology’s ability to make life both easier and
more pleasurable. Whether your 25 or 65, you shouldn’t be
afraid to tackle the high-tech world, which is becoming more simple
and intuitive everyday.
But while advanced technology is already commonplace in modern
design’s lighting and security systems, most people don’t
even think about how technological advancements can transform your
NY or NJ bathroom. And it’s not as far out of reach as you
think. You’re already familiar with some basic high-tech
bathroom applications—public restrooms with automatic faucets
and paper towel dispensers, for example. But these high-tech and
automated systems are making their way into the residential market
and transforming NY, NJ, and CT’s already sophisticated home
renovation market.
Toilets
Equipping your NYC, NJ, or CT toilet with high-tech options is
a great way to take advantage of the latest advances in bathroom
design. Actually, high-tech toilets have been popular in Japan
for years and are only now making the jump to America’s luxury-hungry
market. (To check out some of these toilets outside of Japan, visit
NYC’s swanky Morimoto Sushi restaurant.) Called washlets,
Toto (the Japanese company that invented them) currently sells
four different models in the US—the S400, S300, E200 and
C100. These toilets dispose of the need for toilet paper with special
warm water rinses and air dryers. (Don’t worry: you can adjust
the temperature, water pressure, air pressure and length of each
cycle…) Further, the heated seats (again, adjustable), automated
lids, and self-cleansing options, all make these toilets the most
sanitary, pleasurable, and efficient appliances since indoor plumbing
itself.
But if this high-end toilet is out of your reach—the S300
starts at around $1200—an American product called the Swash
may be more up your alley. Basically a bidet seat that fits over
your existing toilet, the Swash features warm water cleansing,
air-drying and heated seats controlled by a remote device—all
with a retail price of around $430 to $530.
Showers & Bathtubs
For most of us the most exciting possibilities of home renovation
digitalization are the innovations in showers and baths. For most
NY, NJ, and CT homeowners, the bathroom is the perfect place to
relax. The good news is, revamping your bath tech in NJ, NY, and
CT can increase the value of your existing property by turning
a room of utility into one of luxurious pleasure that ultimately
pays for itself.
For example, programmable showers with customized settings for
each family member—from temperature, water pressure, and
lighting to your very own music or iPod playlist—make the
dream of creating a high-tech luxury spa right in your own home
or apartment more accessible than ever before.
Take a look, for example, at the Kohler DTV Custom Shower Experience,
which offers temperature control, hydro-massage, multiple showerheads
with different sprays and pressures (including the attractive new
wall-mounted shower tile). Other shower systems like the BodySpa
and Water Haven offer similar set-ups with varying numbers and
types of showerheads, all enabling temperature and pressure control
at the push of a button.
As you investigate expanding and upgrading your bathroom, consider
more unusual options, too— like an enclosed steam shower
or a sauna. This is an attractive option, especially if you live
in a suburban area like Bergen County NJ, or Plainview, Long Island
and are able to expand your bathroom into an adjacent room or hallway.
Luxuries like this can make the long New York winters a little
easier to bear.
Bathtubs are also benefiting from the high-tech revolution and
becoming virtual oases. What once seemed like only a mirage is
now a reality for homeowners bold enough to embrace the comforts
of the future. Choose from high-end tubs like Simple Soakers to
Soaking Over-flowing Bathtubs for two with color therapy options
(i.e. chromatherapy) and champagne-like bubbles. Jacuzzis and whirlpools
now offer different features from effervescence and chromatherapy
to targeted massage for the ultimate decompressing space.
Sinks & Faucets
As we mentioned earlier in this article, you’re already familiar
with high-tech faucets: many public restrooms feature motion sensor-activated
faucets. And you can now install similar products in your own New
York, New Jersey, or Connecticut remodeling project. From innovative
touch and motion sensors to joystick controls, these new design-conscious
and often eco-friendly options can cost anywhere from $300 to several
thousand dollars. (Take a look at sleek Delta e-Flow Faucet for
Baths or any of Kohler’s newest lines for ideas.) In fact,
most of these automated options can help you go green, which allows
you to both save money and the environment at the same time.
