Choosing
a Certified Interior Designer |
Designing a kitchen or a bathroom is not a simple project. You
need an experienced professional to design and carry out your kitchen
plan. Designers understand the problems associated with a remodeling
project and can find proper solutions. You want a professional
who is certified by the National Kitchen & Bath Association
(NKBA), as you can be sure that he or she will have experience
and training. The NKBA offers the following certifications:
• NKBA offers the following certifications:
• AKBD – Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer
• CKD – Certified Kitchen Designer
• CBD – Certified Bathroom Designer
• CMKBD – Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer
Usually, having a certified designer is enough, but you will get
superior service from a Master. The NKBA has outlined guidelines
to help you screen designers. Here are the guidelines:
1. Interview a few designers in your area, look at their past projects
and portfolios, and ask to see their credentials.
2. Inspect their showroom. A messy showroom that is missing some
display elements or is not completely professional is probably
a warning sign. Look elsewhere.
3. Look for a designer who is original. You might as well get a
one-of-a-kind design job, since you are paying for it.
4. Select a designer who has a well-constructed presentation. It
is an indication of how well organized the person is.
5. Select a designer whose work covers a wide range of styles.
This way your designer will be able to offer you more to chose
from.
6. Look for friendly, helpful staff. The design project is going
to take a while, and you will be in contact with the staff quite
often. Make sure the experience will be a pleasant one.
7. Ask for references from satisfied clients. A designer should
be able to offer you references if he or she has done work before.
8. Look for NKBA Membership. Members of NKBA are always in touch
with the latest trends and the most up-to-date innovations in materials
and technologies. |
