Metal is a prime component in barn roofs, sheds, and other no-frills
buildings. Usually in the form of corrugated, galvanized sheets,
metal roofs are cheap, tough, easy-to-install, and can last for
fifty years. However more precious metals like copper roof have
been shining on top of luxury pavilions for years, emanating elegance
and stature. As expected, copper is quite expensive. Sometimes
bay and bow window roofs are copper soldered for a subtle but
elegant touch, but larger roofs often utilize the "standing-seam"
method that involves large sheets and an interlocking seam. Interlocking
tin and copper shingles provide an alternative to this method.
It is interesting that even in this parameter there are more things
to choose from, including powder-coated steel roof "systems"
on the market, which offers a cost conscious deviation from the
galvanized metal concept. Lightweight and durable, its many colors
are making it popular among homeowners when it was once considered
a “utility” material.
