Tub-to-Shower Bathroom Renovation at 11 Riverside Drive

Before the Renovation

The original primary bathroom featured an under-mount bathtub, aging wall and floor finishes, mirrored closet doors, and fixtures that no longer met the homeowner’s needs. Rather than expanding the footprint, the renovation focused on improving accessibility and everyday functionality by converting the tub into a spacious walk-in shower while updating the room with durable materials and refined finishes. The existing pedestal sink, toilet, sconces, and floating shelf were carefully preserved and incorporated into the new design, allowing the renovation to prioritize the shower transformation and upgraded tile work.

Final Project Reveal

The completed bathroom delivers a contemporary, highly functional space that feels significantly more open without changing the room’s footprint. A custom walk-in shower, full-height porcelain wall tile, fish-scale accent tile, frameless sliding glass enclosure, and coordinated brushed nickel fixtures create a clean, timeless aesthetic. By combining carefully selected materials with thoughtful planning, the renovation modernized the bathroom while preserving several existing elements that remained in excellent condition

Before construction began, every finish and plumbing detail was coordinated to ensure the new shower integrated seamlessly within the existing bathroom layout. Waterproofing, soundproofing, reinforced wall blocking, and updated plumbing infrastructure were incorporated behind the finished surfaces, creating a bathroom designed for long-term durability as well as everyday comfort.

Tub-to-Shower Conversion

The centerpiece of the renovation was replacing the existing bathtub with a larger walk-in shower. The new shower features full-height Emser Erosion Glacier porcelain wall tile, a Daltile Artefino Vintage Azurite fish-scale accent wall, a custom-built corner bench, Infinity linear drainage, a Riobel thermostatic shower system with fixed showerhead and hand shower, and a frameless sliding glass enclosure. Waterproof membranes, soundproofing underlayment, a lead shower pan, and cement backer board were incorporated beneath the finished materials to ensure lasting performance.

Bathroom Finish & Accessibility Upgrades

Beyond the shower conversion, the renovation refreshed nearly every visible surface while retaining select existing fixtures. New porcelain floor tile, a Caesarstone shower bench and saddle, updated closet doors and hardware, brushed nickel accessories, new GFCI protection, updated dimmers, and improved waterproofing contributed to a cleaner, more functional space. Existing pedestal sink, toilet, sconces, floating shelf, and medicine cabinet were intentionally preserved, allowing the renovation budget to focus on high-impact upgrades while maintaining continuity within the bathroom.
