Kitchen Renovation at 45 West 11th Street

Before Renovation

Before the renovation, the kitchen featured white cabinetry, dark stone countertops, stainless-steel appliances, a gray subway-style backsplash, and a compact layout that opened toward the adjacent living area. A raised counter with seating helped connect the kitchen to the living room, but the overall palette and cabinetry felt more conventional and visually disconnected from the rest of the apartment.

The renovation retained the kitchen’s efficient footprint while giving the space a much stronger design identity through new cabinetry, surfaces, fixtures, lighting, and a more cohesive peninsula arrangement.

Final Project Reveal

The finished kitchen introduces a bold navy-and-white palette built around dark blue Shaker cabinetry, white quartz countertops, brass hardware, and a crisp white tiled backsplash. Stainless-steel appliances remain integrated into the compact layout, while a black sink and black-and-brass pull-down faucet introduce another layer of contrast.

A peninsula extends the work surface while providing seating for two and creating a stronger visual connection between the kitchen and surrounding living area. Pendant lighting above the peninsula and under-cabinet lighting over the main work surfaces complete the layered lighting scheme.

Rather than treating the kitchen as a separate room, the completed design uses the peninsula to create a transition between cooking, dining, and living. The dark cabinetry gives the kitchen definition, while the white quartz surfaces and open counter keep the compact space from feeling visually heavy.

Navy Shaker Cabinetry & Brass Details

Dark blue Shaker cabinetry became the defining feature of the renovation, extending across both upper and lower storage while maximizing the available wall space. Brass pulls provide warm contrast against the navy finish, while white quartz countertops and a glossy white backsplash keep the overall composition balanced and bright.

Peninsula, Fixtures & Integrated Function

The peninsula adds additional counter space and seating for two while connecting the kitchen directly to the living area. A black undermount sink and coordinated black faucet with brass accents reinforce the project’s color palette, while the dishwasher, under-counter microwave, gas range, refrigerator, pendant lighting, and under-cabinet illumination are integrated into the compact layout.
